Event Summary

Over the last few years the SME lending industry in the UK has undergone considerable change. The emergence of a vast swathe of alternative lenders has stimulated the traditional providers in to reviewing their business models. The long-held view that a large proportion of the small business community was simply too risky and expensive to serve is starting to shift and the growth potential of SMEs is increasingly being considered an important element of a lender’s portfolio.

The battle lines have been drawn and the race to modernise infrastructure and digitise processes is fully under way. And for the victors? Lower cost to serve, quicker to time to cash and a customer experience that drives repeat business and advocacy.

In this session we will explore the changing face of SME lending, and ask how far the banks have come with their digital strategies and ability to harness data effectively in order to remain competitive.
